Redesign of Turgeon Street in Sainte-Thérèse

Urban redevelopment to rejuvenate the downtown core

---

As part of its project to revitalize downtown, the City of Sainte-Thérèse undertook major construction work on one of the municipality’s key arteries following the redevelopment of several lots. The goal was to create a more welcoming space for citizens and visitors while adding to the vitality of a neighborhood enjoying a boom.

Thanks to this upgrade—which extends over 800 meters—Turgeon Street now offers an inviting entrance to this part of the sector, known as Sainte-Thérèse Village.

“The project included a number of enhancements that would make the area more enjoyable and secure,” says Martin Angers, an engineer for Sainte-Thérèse’s Engineering Department. “As well as replacing old infrastructure—some pipes dated back to the 30s—the city took advantage of this major undertaking to bury overhead wires and remove posts along the roadway.”

This large operation required great ingenuity, ensuring residents of the mixed commercial/residential zone kept their services while maintaining the area’s unique character.

“Following our initial call for interest, Cyclone submitted a diverse selection of urban luminaires, including the traditional Augusta series, which worked with the style we were going for,” continues Angers. “That part of the road wasn’t very modern, and buildings reflected the look of the city’s industrial past. What made all the difference was the ability to pair street lights with joint-use enclosures, enabling the distribution of electric and telecommunication services.”

The lighting series met both functional and aesthetic requirements while adding a touch of charm and elegance. Many other Cyclone products were used, including slotted poles with brackets, banners, and plant holders (specially designed to be installed on slotted poles).

“This functional aspect is important for a downtown area,” says Angers. “Think of how the street is decorated for different events, or the integration of various elements that add to the ambiance during specific times of year, such as banners, light strings, and flower baskets. There’s also the integration of electrical outlets at the base of a street lights. It’s a must during the winter months. The lighting of Sainte-Thérèse Village is a real happening!”
